The Nigeria Cassava Growers Association (NCGA) will partner with the emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) to establish an ethanol plant. The EAIF is an international private infrastructure financier founded by the government of UK, Sweden, Netherlands and Switzerland.
The opportunity for ethanol production is amazing right now, our demand locally is being met by importation of ethanol into Nigeria. Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava in the world, producing about 40millions tons per year. Cassava is one of the richest fermentable substances for the production of crude alcohol/ethanol. Cassava produces a better quality alcohol and the distilling techniques employed ensures a high quality products, free from all types of odour and not harmful to the environment. We consume up to 20million litres of the product annually and presently there is nobody producing it despite the abundance of the raw materials (Cassava) in the country. The domestic demand for ethanol is estimated at over 200million litres annually with a production of over 165million people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum an average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five(5) years. Nigeria has a large market for ethanol.
